There are two types of spousal maintenance in the state of Minnesota, and while they both may seem relatively straight-forward, it is worth remembering that spousal maintenance disputes can be emotionally difficult and legally complex.
Permanent Maintenance: Permanent maintenance is ordered when it is clear that the receiving party cannot be self-sufficient following the divorce, either due to age, health, and/or work experience.
Temporary Maintenance: Temporary maintenance is paid in a specific amount over the course of a specific period of time so as to allow the party receiving the support ample time to become self-sufficient.
If you have questions about the divorce process, particularly when it comes to issues of spousal maintenance, you need reliable and effective legal guidance to help you understand your options. Reach out to the caring and trusted attorneys at Howard Family Law, LLC today to learn more.
Smart, practical, accessible and careful with my feelings and my funds, Lyndsay Howard is an amazing ally in your legal process. She did not waste my time or my money, had good practical advice, while having no tolerance or patience for nonsense. She did all this while being compassionate and available to me in a confusing and emotionally difficult time. I couldn’t recommend her more highly. -Katie S.
