Committed Adoption Attorney Serves Dakota County
Adoption is a legal process in which the rights and responsibilities of a biological parent are transferred to an adoptive parent. There are many variations of adoption, including:
- Domestic adoptions
- International adoptions
- Independent or private-placement adoptions, where an adoptive parent is placed with an adoptive child. These types of adoptions can be assisted with a local adoption agency.
- Relative adoptions (can include a stepparent adoption, or a direct relative adoption)
- Foster care adoption
There are many complicated issues that may arise during the adoption process. Adoptions may involve the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children (ICPC), the Hague Convention, a termination of parental rights (TPR) proceeding, the Fathers’ Adoption Registry, adoption subsidies, contact agreements and/or an adult trying to locate his/her birth parents.
It is imperative that both birth parents and adoptive parents obtain representation and/or counseling during the adoption process. Please contact Howard Family Law, LLC to discuss how we can help you with your adoption issue.
